Wilson's Surgery Went Well

Wilson's had his big surgery today at 12:30.  He did great.  Kristen and I arrived at the hospital about 9am so that we could be with him all morning and listen as the surgery plan solidified.  Early this morning Wilson seemed to be in pain- wincing when his nurse, Kiann, another favorite, touched his belly.  She upped his meds as soon as she got in.  She prepared him for surgery, which is quite a lot of work.  He kept her busy today!  The nurses work together to help each other out, too.

Going into the surgery, Wilson was as strong as he could be.  He received a blood transfusion and something to make his blood clot better, and he was doing a great job on keeping his ventilator settings down.  We kissed him goodbye and left him in the hands of Dr. Evan Kokoska, the pediatric surgeon.  After a 2 hour wait, Dr. Kokoska came to us with the good news.  His condition definitely had warranted surgery but was not as bad as he had expected.  Wilson had some bowel that was sick but not dead, and Dr. K removed 8cm of bowel.  Dr. Kokoska was able to search almost all the intestines for holes and was able to do the ostomy.  Dr. K said the surgery went as well as it could have.  We were so relieved that I just cried like a baby and hugged Dr. K.  We all agreed Dr. K looked relieved as well.  He had a totally different demeanor than we'd seen in our other conversations.

Ella is doing great, as usual.  Luke's vent settings seem a little high, and he had a short seizure last night.  He's loaded up on phenylbarbitol, so I'm not sure how that happened.  He might need a different kind of seizure medicine.  Luke is also still on dopamine for his blood pressure due to his surgery Monday.  Now we're more than 48hrs out from the surgery on Monday, it seems that he should be able to pull it together a little more than he is.  I'm going to try to focus on him a bit more tomorrow.   Wilson kept us all busy today.

Thank you very much to everyone who prayed for Wilson.  Our prayers are answered every day; thank you, God. We are so, so thankful to be entrusted with these three beautiful babies.
