We're So Excited About Luke!

Lukey Pookie Bear, our baby, is finally using his whole body to move forward on the ground.  I'm going to go ahead and call it.  LUKE IS CRAWLING!!!  What a long time coming!!  This is been a lofty but central goal of our therapy since we began receiving services in October. If I haven't mentioned it before, Luke gets both physical therapy and occupational therapy once a week for an hour at home through First Steps.  We love our therapists! They are intelligent and creative in how they motivate and connect with Luke.  We are so thankful for them.

As recent as January, at 9 months old, Luke was really just laying on his back, not rolling, and staring into space (even when you attempted to interact) about 50% of the time.  (You might recall, he had a bout of seizures in September.)  Then something just clicked.  I think it was both cognitive and visual.  (Luke already had an eye surgery back in the NICU and just got glasses.)  He went from little eye interaction to seeing the world.  Of course, this motivated him to move!  Through the hard work of our therapists and follow-through with his exercises, Luke started rolling from tummy to back and then back to tummy.  Now he was a new kid!  He could get where ever and whatever he wanted by rolling. This is how he got by...  until this weekend.  For the first time, he pulled his knees up under his hips, and scooted.  Once.  Today, with his OT, Kollin, for the first time, he did several scoots in a row.  I was lucky enough to catch it on video!

We don't sound very excited here on the video, but we were squealing like little kids!  We are all so proud of him!!  Not only this, but today he was pivoting (laying on his belly and spinning) really fast to chase a toy!  There's more.  Then, he intentionally picked up three blocks and put them away in a bin at Kollin's request!  It was a huge day!  We love you, Lukey!
